History
Indonesia was a colonial state under Dutch rule. After World War II, there was a four year war in Indonesia. The colonists fought the Dutch rulers. The war was fought by guerrilla warfare. With some help overseas, the Republic of Indonesia proclaimed independence in August of 1945. Sukarno, the new leader of Indonesia who was imprisoned by Dutch rule, kept this new country happy. After twenty years, the countries economy started to fall and there were revolts. Sukarno finally resigned and B.J. Habibie took over as the leader. Indonesia has never fully recovered economically, but their economy has not gotten any worse.
Culture
LanguageThe national language in Indonesia is Indonesian. Those who do not speak Indonesian speak Indian or English. The country has a 90% literacy rate. Majority of the schools in the country are implementing English.

Religion80% of the citizens in Indonesia are Muslim. 16% are Christian and 2% practice Hindu. Religion is a major part of Indonesian culture. Many attractions are old famous temples.
