Background
History
After World War II, Cambodia sought independence from French Union. In 1949, they achieved that. Sihaunuk gained control of military during French-Indochinese War. When Sihaunuk's father died, Sihaunuk took throne of country. He guaranteed neutrality going into Vietnam War. Cambodia had to get involved when North Vietnamese used Cambodia as a safe home. Attacks rose in Cambodia's capital as they tried to hold off these troops. USA supplied government to help keep the Vietcong out.

LanguageMost people who live in Cambodia speak Khmer. This language has been native to this part of the world because of the old ruler Khmer Rouge.

CuisinePopular dishes in Cambodia are sweet-and-sour wings, stir fried beef, and pork brochettes. The wings are baked and not fried like American wings. Most of their seasonings come from fruits.

ReligionNinety-five percent of Cambodians' practice Buddhism. The other main religion, which is not nearly as popular, is Hinduism. Many temples for these religions are top travel attractions.

Hotels: Four-star hotels range from prices of $80 to $110 a night. You'll be able to spend your nights comfortably in Cambodia. Most hotels have views of the old palaces and temples. The whole southern part of the country is on the water.
Transportation: Traveling through the country can be done easily by bus or motorcycle taxi. A trip on a taxi over 10 kilometers could be $10. A bus trip might only be $5.
